Update on Buying Chometz after Pesach Retail Stores – Time Shortened
In general, RIK advises consumers to wait four weeks after Pesach before purchasing chometz* from major non-Jewish supermarkets (such as Target and Stop & Shop) that buy chometz products from Jewish distributors who do not sell their chometz. This year, however, as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, products are moving exceptionally quickly through the grocery supply chain.

Therefore, RIK is advising that one may start purchasing chometz from these stores as of this Friday, May 1.

Restaurant Supply Stores – Time Extended
For restaurant supply stores like Restaurant Depot, which is Jewish owned, the opposite is true. Restaurant Depot’s turnover is much slower this year and therefore we are extending the date to buy from them until the day after Shavuos, Sunday, May 31.
